F1 to race in Canada until 2035 with new extension
Formula 1 has announced a significant extension to the Canadian Grand Prix, ensuring the iconic Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal will remain on the F1 calendar until the 2035 season. This new four-year agreement, following the 54th edition of the race, solidifies Montreal's place as a firm favorite among drivers and fans alike.
Known for its challenging chicanes, the famous hairpin, and the legendary Wall of Champions, the 4.36 km circuit has seen victories from current stars like Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen, with Hamilton sharing the record for most wins with Michael Schumacher, both at seven.
The promoter, Octane Racing Group, alongside various government stakeholders, has committed to continued infrastructure investments to modernize the venue. Additionally, the event will shift to an earlier slot from 2026 onwards to optimize the race calendar. The renewal also includes a long-term extension of Bell Media's media rights deal.
Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, expressed his delight, praising Montreal as an "incredible city, full of energy and passionate fans." Local officials emphasized the Grand Prix's role as the country's biggest event, boosting the city's international profile and generating significant economic benefits. This extension promises a decade more of world-class racing in Canada.
