Norris fastest as Piastri hits the wall during FP3 in Canada
McLaren's Lando Norris set the fastest time in the final practice session for the Canadian Grand Prix, signaling a strong performance ahead of qualifying. Charles Leclerc of Ferrari, who had a challenging Friday with a crash in FP1 and a chassis change keeping him out of FP2, bounced back impressively to secure second place, just 0.078 seconds behind Norris. Mercedes' George Russell completed the top three, 0.151 seconds off the pace.
The session saw its share of drama, including McLaren's Oscar Piastri tagging the wall and suffering a puncture, leading to a brief red flag period. Despite this, Piastri managed to get back on track and finished eighth. Home favorite Lance Stroll also worked to make up for lost mileage after his own shunt in FP2.
Teams experimented with both soft and medium tires, with the C5 and C6 compounds showing minimal difference in performance. Lewis Hamilton secured fourth place for Ferrari, while championship leader Max Verstappen, despite reporting issues with his brakes, managed to place fifth. With qualifying approaching, teams are now analyzing data to fine-tune their setups for the crucial grid-deciding session.
