Antonelli becomes F1’s third-youngest podium finisher

The 2025 Canadian Grand Prix concluded under Safety Car conditions, delivering a dramatic race filled with notable moments and impressive statistics. George Russell secured his fourth career Grand Prix victory, marking Mercedes' fifth win in Montreal but their first with a driver other than Lewis Hamilton. This win makes Russell the fourth different winner this season, and he has now achieved more podium finishes this year (five) than in all of last season (four). Max Verstappen finished P2, ending his streak of three consecutive Canadian Grand Prix wins, though he reduced his championship deficit to Oscar Piastri by 43 points. The one-two finish for Russell and Verstappen was their third, but Russell's first time as the winner. Kimi Antonelli, at 18 years and 294 days old, impressively secured P3 for Mercedes, becoming the third-youngest podium finisher ever and the first Italian to reach the podium since 2009. His performance earned him 'Driver of the Day.' McLaren's Oscar Piastri finished P4, ending his impressive eight-race podium streak, while a collision with teammate Lando Norris replicated a 2011 incident between Hamilton and Button. Norris's DNF was his first since Austria last season. Ferrari's Charles Leclerc took P5, consistently outperforming teammate Lewis Hamilton, who finished P6, failing to secure a podium in the opening 10 races for the first time in his 19-season F1 career. Other notable results included Fernando Alonso's P7, Nico Hulkenberg's third top-eight finish this season, Esteban Ocon's P9, marking Haas's best-ever Montreal result in their 200th Grand Prix, and Carlos Sainz's P10 for Williams, scoring points in five of the last six races.
