Oscar Piastri clinched a sensational pole position for the Spanish Grand Prix, emerging victorious from an intense intra-team battle with McLaren teammate Lando Norris, while Red Bull’s Max Verstappen settled for third. McLaren had dominated practice sessions, setting the stage for an exhilarating qualifying showdown. Piastri delivered a masterclass on his final run, clocking a formidable 1m 11.546s, which left Norris 0.209s behind – the largest P1-P2 margin this season. Verstappen was a further tenth back, mirroring the championship standings. The Mercedes contingent saw George Russell, who matched Verstappen's time, and rookie Kimi Antonelli split by Lewis Hamilton, who outqualified Charles Leclerc.
