Russell takes victory as Piastri and Norris collide in Canadian GP

George Russell has secured Mercedes' inaugural victory of the season at the Canadian Grand Prix, a race that culminated in dramatic fashion following a collision between McLaren teammates Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, which led to Norris's retirement. Russell, starting from pole, maintained his lead from Max Verstappen, setting the stage for a race defined by contrasting strategies – some opting for a two-stop, others attempting a one-stop. The majority of frontrunners employed a two-stop strategy, ensuring a thrilling finish as the top five cars converged in the closing stages. A fierce battle between the McLaren duo resulted in contact when Norris hit the rear of Piastri's car, forcing Norris to retire and prompting a Safety Car deployment. Russell subsequently crossed the line for his fourth career victory, with Verstappen in second. Mercedes celebrated a double podium as Kimi Antonelli achieved his debut F1 podium in third. Piastri finished fourth, followed by Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton in fifth and sixth, respectively. Fernando Alonso, Nico Hulkenberg, Esteban Ocon, and Carlos Sainz completed the top ten. The race also saw DNFs for Liam Lawson, Alex Albon, and Lando Norris.
