Norris apologises for ‘being stupid’ in Piastri battle

Lando Norris has publicly apologized to his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri following their late-race collision at the Canadian Grand Prix. The British driver took full responsibility for the incident, admitting he "misjudged" an overtaking maneuver he attempted on Piastri in the closing stages of the race. Norris, who was battling Piastri for fourth position, initially made a clean pass at the hairpin. However, after Piastri reclaimed the spot, Norris attempted another move on the straight, braking late and running into the back of Piastri's car. The impact forced Norris to retire from the race, triggering a Safety Car period, while Piastri managed to continue and finished fourth. Reflecting on the crash, Norris candidly stated, "It was all my mistake, I take full blame so I apologise to my whole team and to Oscar for attempting something like that." He further clarified that he had not expected Piastri to yield and acknowledged his error in judgment. Despite the pressure of the championship fight, Norris differentiated between a "fair move" and "being stupid," placing his late-race attempt in the latter category. He concluded by stating his intention to apologize to the team and move forward to the next race in Austria.
