Watch FP1 highlights as Verstappen tops session in Canada
Max Verstappen kicked off the Canadian Grand Prix weekend in dominant fashion, topping the first practice session with a scorching lap. The Red Bull driver showcased impressive pace on a circuit that proved challenging for many, with low grip levels leading to numerous close calls and spins.
Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc was among those who found trouble, bringing out the red flags after an incident that saw him make contact with the barrier, though he still managed to secure a P10 finish. Lewis Hamilton, another prominent figure, also experienced a spin but recovered to claim fifth position, just behind his Mercedes teammate George Russell in fourth.
The session saw Williams' Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz surprisingly slotting into second and third, respectively, highlighting the unpredictable nature of the Montreal track. Isack Hadjar, Lando Norris, Liam Lawson, and Pierre Gasly also secured spots in the top 10, setting the stage for an intriguing weekend ahead in Canada.
