Red Bull protest lodged against Russell after Canadian GP is rejected
Red Bull's post-Canadian Grand Prix protest against George Russell has been rejected, following allegations of erratic driving and unsportsmanlike conduct during the late-race Safety Car period. The controversy erupted on Lap 67 of 70, when a dramatic collision between McLaren teammates Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri forced Norris to retire, triggering the Safety Car.
Russell, who was leading Max Verstappen at the time, accused the Red Bull driver of overtaking him under Safety Car conditions, while Verstappen countered that Russell had braked erratically. After Russell secured the victory, Red Bull lodged an official protest, claiming Russell had driven erratically and exhibited unsportsmanlike behavior by complaining about Verstappen's alleged overtake.
Both drivers and their team representatives were summoned to the stewards, where the hearing concluded with the dismissal of Red Bull's protest. The decision upholds Russell's win, bringing an end to the post-race dispute that briefly overshadowed the thrilling Canadian Grand Prix.
