How F1 teams adapted to the unique challenge of Monaco
Mark Hughes and Giorgio Piola analyze the unique aerodynamic updates introduced at the Monaco Grand Prix. Teams took advantage of Monte Carlo's specific demands by adding unconventional winglets in the central rear wing area, which usually houses Straight Line Mode activators.
Since Straight Line Mode was not required for this circuit, teams were able to maximize downforce without worrying about the resulting drag. This resulted in several creative designs tailored specifically for the slow-speed, tight nature of the Monaco track.
