Tsunoda left unhappy with 10-place grid penalty in Canada
Yuki Tsunoda has openly questioned the stewards' decision to hand him a 10-place grid penalty for a red flag infringement during FP3 at the Canadian Grand Prix, stating he's unsure what was expected of him. The Red Bull driver was penalised for overtaking Oscar Piastri's damaged McLaren while debris was scattered across the track.
Piastri had caused the red flag by hitting the Wall of Champions, severely damaging his car. Tsunoda encountered the slow-moving McLaren on the back straight, noting that Piastri's car was shedding debris and its tyre was going sideways. Concerned about being hit by flying debris, Tsunoda cautiously passed Piastri at a reduced speed, moving far to the right to ensure a clear path.
Despite his efforts to avoid a potentially dangerous situation, stewards deemed there was no justifiable reason for the overtake, handing him the same penalty previously given to Ollie Bearman in Monaco for a similar offence. Tsunoda, who qualified P11, will now start from the back of the grid, expressing his frustration and belief that the penalty is undeserved given the circumstances.
