Aston Martin's Krack provides more background on Stroll’s injury with ‘Plan A’ for Canadian to race on home soil

Aston Martin’s Chief Trackside Officer, Mike Krack, has shed light on Lance Stroll’s unexpected withdrawal from the Spanish Grand Prix, attributing it to persistent pain in his hand and wrist. This discomfort is believed to stem from injuries sustained in a cycling accident during the 2023 pre-season, which required surgery. Stroll, known for his determination, has reportedly been driving through pain for weeks, a common trait among racers reluctant to sit out. Krack explained that the decision not to race was made on Saturday after qualifying, following a thorough medical evaluation that recommended his absence. While cautious about predicting recovery, Krack stated that Aston Martin’s “Plan A” is for Stroll to be back in the car for his home race in Canada next weekend. However, the team is also preparing “Plan B,” with reserve drivers Felipe Drugovich and Stoffel Vandoorne on standby, despite their commitments to the 24 Hours of Le Mans which clashes with the Montreal race weekend. Krack emphasized that the team will monitor Stroll’s condition closely over the coming days before making a final decision.
