Charles Leclerc capitalized on his surprising Hungarian Grand Prix pole position, expertly fending off the charging McLarens of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris during the opening lap to retain the lead. While Leclerc enjoyed a strong launch, Norris, starting P3, initially challenged teammate Piastri for second but ultimately lost two spots to George Russell and a surging Fernando Alonso. Further back, Kick Sauber rookie Gabriel Bortoleto impressively gained on Lance Stroll for P6. Meanwhile, championship leader Max Verstappen struggled to improve from his P8 qualifying spot, holding station through the chaotic start. The drama unfolded rapidly as the pack jostled for position.
