Everything we know about F1’s all-new race in Rwanda
Formula 1 is officially returning to Africa after securing a 10-year deal to host the African Grand Prix in Rwanda during the early 2030s. F1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali emphasized that the sport was determined to return to the continent with the right long-term partner and a clear vision for sustainable impact.
The new race will take place at a purpose-built FIA Grade 1 circuit located in Bugesera, roughly 40km south of Kigali and adjacent to the new Kigali International Airport. Designed by WurzDesign and Tilke Engineers and Architects, the track will utilize Rwanda's natural elevation changes to create a challenging layout.
Drivers have strongly welcomed the historic announcement, with seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton highlighting his long-standing push for an African race, while Max Verstappen and George Russell both expressed excitement about expanding the calendar to the continent.
