Verstappen wins Austin Sprint as both McLarens retire
Max Verstappen claimed a dramatic Sprint victory at the United States Grand Prix, navigating an eventful race that saw both McLaren drivers, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, retire on Lap 1 after being caught in a Turn 1 melee involving Nico Hulkenberg. Verstappen, starting from pole, fended off George Russell, who finished P2, and managed two Safety Car periods. Carlos Sainz secured P3. The Sprint concluded under a second Safety Car following a late collision between Lance Stroll and Esteban Ocon. Oliver Bearman initially finished P8 but a penalty promoted Andrea Kimi Antonelli into the points. Verstappen acknowledged the win but noted concerns about race pace for the upcoming Grand Prix.
