Why Red Bull and Audi’s floor stay trick is banned for 2027

A clever regulation loophole utilized this season by Red Bull and Audi has been officially outlawed for the upcoming Formula 1 season. The controversial 'floor stay' loophole allowed teams to bypass regulations limiting the radius angle on the edges of the sidepod. By exploiting this loophole, teams were able to achieve a much more aggressive aerodynamic shape, promoting cleaner airflow along the sidepod undercut as air travels toward the rear of the car. This design exploited the strict bodywork radius regulations, which normally dictate the maximum permitted radius angles for various bodywork panels at their corners and edges.
