McLaren has detailed its strategy for the upcoming Barcelona Shakedown, opting to commence testing on either the second or third day to maximize development time. Team Principal Andrea Stella highlighted the team's ambitious yet cautious approach to the all-new 2026 technical regulations, emphasizing a fresh start for everyone. The MCL40 is currently undergoing dyno testing in Austria before its track debut. Chief Designer Rob Marshall indicated that significant changes between the shakedown and the season-opening Australian Grand Prix are unlikely, with the focus instead on thoroughly understanding the complex new car. The team believes this phased approach will allow them to launch the most competitive package. The MCL40 is set for its official launch on February 9.
