F1 returns to Africa with 10-year deal to race in Rwanda

Formula 1 has announced a landmark 10-year agreement to host the African Grand Prix in Rwanda, marking the sport's return to the African continent for the first time since 1993. The races will take place on a newly constructed, FIA Grade 1-certified circuit in Bugesera, located near Kigali International Airport, expected to debut in the early 2030s. The project is spearheaded by the Rwanda Development Board and aims to leverage Rwanda's growing reputation as a hub for major international sporting events. The circuit is designed to integrate with the natural landscape and will function as a year-round destination to boost regional tourism, infrastructure, and economic growth. F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali, Rwandan President Paul Kagame, and FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem all praised the agreement as a historic milestone. They emphasized that the partnership will create long-term social and economic benefits, inspire future generations of African talent, and connect with the continent's growing fan base of over 100 million people.
