Former Red Bull strategy chief Courtenay starts at McLaren

McLaren has bolstered its leadership team with the early arrival of Will Courtenay as their new Sporting Director. Courtenay, who spent 22 years at Red Bull, including 15 as Head of Race Strategy, was initially expected to join in mid-2026 but secured an early release. His extensive experience, dating back to Red Bull's first F1 season in 2005, is seen as a significant asset for the Woking-based squad. McLaren Team Principal Andrea Stella expressed confidence that Courtenay's professionalism and passion will be crucial as the team strives to challenge for wins and championships. Courtenay reunites with former Red Bull colleague Rob Marshall, who also recently joined McLaren as design chief, further strengthening the team's technical and sporting structure.
