Oscar Piastri endured a "gut-wrenching" Qatar Grand Prix, missing out on a potential victory after McLaren's alternative strategy backfired. Despite a dominant weekend, securing Sprint pole, a Sprint win, and race pole, Piastri's chances unravelled following an early Safety Car. While most rivals pitted, McLaren kept both drivers out, forcing Piastri into two stops under normal racing conditions. This allowed Max Verstappen to seize the lead and claim victory, with Piastri settling for a frustrating second place. The Australian expressed deep disappointment, feeling he drove his best but the strategy wasn't right. The result sees Piastri demoted to third in the standings, 12 points behind Verstappen.
