A closer look at Aston Martin’s major Hungary upgrades

Aston Martin has introduced a massive update package featuring 16 modifications to the AMR26 for the Hungarian Grand Prix, signaling a strategic pivot to support Adrian Newey’s vision for the car. The technical revisions primarily focus on enhancing the diffuser's performance by improving airflow, which allows the car to operate at higher rear ride heights—a key element for the high-rake configuration favored by Newey. Key changes include a slimmer nose and redesigned front wing elements to better manage airflow around the front tires. By manipulating air pressure through these structural adjustments, the car can now direct more airflow towards the underfloor. Additionally, the sidepod profile has been slimmed down while maintaining a large undercut, effectively creating a low-pressure zone that accelerates air along the floor edges, further optimizing the vehicle's aerodynamic efficiency and underfloor pressure.
