Pirelli confirm 2026 tyre compounds for new era of F1
Pirelli has announced its tyre compound selection for the 2026 Formula 1 season, adapting to a new era featuring slightly narrower 18-inch tyres. The Italian manufacturer will provide compounds ranging from C1 to C5, discontinuing the C6 tyre. This decision follows extensive data analysis, including recent tests in Mexico City, and was made with FIA approval, as the C6 showed insufficient performance delta compared to the C5. Pirelli is confident in the chosen range, developed using team-supplied forecast data and mule car testing to match projected 2026 car characteristics. Further testing with current drivers is scheduled for Abu Dhabi on December 9, ahead of three pre-season tests and the season opener in Australia on March 8.
