Russell details ‘frustrating’ opening lap issue in Mexico
George Russell expressed his frustration after the Mexico City Grand Prix, where a deployment issue on the opening lap hampered his chances of victory and cost him second place in the Drivers' Championship to team mate Kimi Antonelli.
Russell qualified second, just 0.009 seconds behind Lewis Hamilton, but lost multiple positions at the start. He later received a 10-second penalty for a collision with Isack Hadjar and ultimately finished in sixth place.
Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff sympathized with Russell's difficult season and acknowledged that reliability issues had let the British driver down during key moments.
