Vasseur promises Ferrari will bounce back in Madrid

Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur reflected on a disappointing Italian Grand Prix, where a collision between Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton on the opening lap followed by a major crash for Leclerc left the team empty-handed at their home race. Hamilton struggled to P6 after the restart, highlighting the team's ongoing issues with straight-line speed despite recent power unit upgrades. Addressing the internal friction, Vasseur acknowledged that the team must soon clarify their 'rules of engagement' regarding Leclerc and Hamilton, especially as the title race intensifies. Drawing a comparison to McLaren's handling of Oscar Piastri last season, Vasseur noted that while it was too early for team orders before Monza, the team will now sit down to discuss how to best manage their drivers moving forward. Vasseur emphasized that the team’s current performance is hindered by a fundamental lack of pure power, which forces the team to compromise on energy deployment during races. While the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid may suit the Ferrari car better due to its track layout, Vasseur maintained that the priority is to digest the setbacks of Monza before refocusing on the next challenge.
