Newey opens up on debut Aston Martin design

F1 design legend Adrian Newey's first Aston Martin creation, the AMR26, made its debut at the Barcelona Shakedown, with Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso completing initial laps. Newey, who joined Aston Martin as Managing Technical Partner last March, highlighted the immense challenge of the 2026 regulations, which brought simultaneous changes to power unit and chassis. The team faced a "very compressed timescale" and a four-month delay in wind tunnel testing compared to rivals, pushing them to get the car ready last minute. Newey described the AMR26's design as "aggressively" packaged, featuring novel elements and a tight integration of mechanical and aerodynamic components. Despite the hurdles, he praised the team's dedication and confirmed the car is built with significant development potential for the season.
