Alex Dunne to drive for McLaren during FP1 in Austria
McLaren has announced that rising star Alex Dunne will participate in Free Practice 1 at the 2025 Austrian Grand Prix, stepping in for Lando Norris. The current Formula 2 standings leader and McLaren Driver Development Programme member will make history as the first Irish driver to feature in an F1 weekend in 22 years.
Dunne, 19, has rapidly ascended through junior categories, showcasing his talent with multiple F4 wins and a GB3 vice-championship before reaching F2, where he currently leads the standings. This opportunity provides crucial track time in the MCL39, offering valuable experience as part of his development within the team's programme.
