Former F1 driver and Paralympian Alex Zanardi passes away
The Formula 1 community is mourning the loss of Alex Zanardi, who has passed away at 59. A popular figure in motorsport, Zanardi competed in 41 Grands Prix for Jordan, Minardi, Lotus, and Williams during the 1990s, with a career-best sixth-place finish in Brazil.
Following a life-altering crash in 2001 that led to the amputation of both his legs, Zanardi staged a remarkable return to racing and later excelled in handcycling, earning four gold and two silver medals across the 2012 and 2016 Paralympic Games. F1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali paid tribute, praising his inspirational strength and determination, and offered his heartfelt condolences to Zanardi's family.
