Newly-discovered species of wasp named after Piastri
McLaren driver Oscar Piastri has been immortalized in the scientific world, as researchers named a newly-discovered species of fossilized wasp in his honor. The species, found in Burmese amber in Myanmar, has been officially dubbed 'Gwesped piastrii'.
The researchers explained that the naming choice celebrates Piastri's F1 achievements, while the amber's distinct hue reminded them of the iconic McLaren orange livery. While Piastri has not yet addressed the discovery, the F1 community is already buzzing about the unique tribute as the drivers prepare for the upcoming Monaco Grand Prix.
