Why McLaren have named their rotating wing the 'H-Wing'

McLaren is set to introduce new aerodynamic updates at the upcoming Italian Grand Prix, most notably a rotating rear wing design dubbed the ‘H-Wing’. The name serves as a tribute to the team’s historic 2010 F-duct system, with the ‘H’ referencing the logo of partner Etihad Airways on the wing. In addition to this upgrade, the team will bring low-drag specifications tailored for the high-speed demands of the Monza circuit. Technical Director Neil Houldey emphasized the unique challenges of Monza, highlighting the importance of drag reduction and efficient energy management. The team aims to utilize accurate simulations and clean practice sessions to maximize their competitive baseline. With the championship margins remaining incredibly tight, McLaren continues to focus on unlocking further performance from the MCL40 through a combination of maximizing existing packages and future development.
