FACTS AND STATS: McLaren’s first Spanish 1-2 for a quarter of a century
The Spanish Grand Prix delivered a statistical anomaly for Red Bull, as Max Verstappen’s P10 finish marked his worst Grand Prix result since 2017. This comes as McLaren secured their 52nd 1-2 finish in Formula 1, and their first in Spain in 25 years, with Oscar Piastri taking his fifth win of the season.
Piastri’s victory also sees him join an elite group of McLaren drivers, including Ayrton Senna and Lewis Hamilton, to achieve eight consecutive podium finishes. Meanwhile, Lando Norris secured his second consecutive P2 finish in Barcelona.
Elsewhere on the grid, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc finally claimed his first Spanish Grand Prix podium in his eighth attempt, marking Ferrari’s first podium at the circuit since 2017. Nico Hulkenberg delivered Kick Sauber’s best result since 2022 with a P5 finish, while Lewis Hamilton’s P6 for Mercedes was his worst Spanish GP result since 2016. Isack Hadjar and Pierre Gasly also impressed with career-best finishes for Racing Bulls and Alpine, respectively. Fernando Alonso, in his home race, secured his first points of the season with a P9 finish.
