SPAIN LOWDOWN: All the key moments as Piastri stars, restart chaos ensues and footballers descend on the paddock
Oscar Piastri clinched a dominant victory at the Spanish Grand Prix, leading a McLaren 1-2 finish with teammate Lando Norris.
Piastri, starting from pole position, controlled the race despite a late Safety Car period that threatened to reshuffle the field. His win extends his lead in the Drivers’ Championship and further solidifies McLaren’s commanding position in the Constructors’ standings.
The race, the conclusion of a demanding triple-header, was marked by significant drama, particularly in the closing laps. A Safety Car deployment due to Kimi Antonelli’s mechanical issue triggered a chaotic pit lane scramble. Max Verstappen, fitted with hard tyres during the Safety Car period, struggled with grip and was involved in multiple incidents, including contact with Charles Leclerc and George Russell. Verstappen ultimately received a 10-second penalty, dropping him from fifth to tenth.
Beyond the front-runners, Nico Hulkenberg delivered a stellar performance for Kick Sauber, climbing from P15 to finish fifth, securing valuable points for his team. Fernando Alonso also delighted his home crowd by scoring his first points of the season, finishing ninth after a late surge. The weekend also saw Lance Stroll withdraw due to a prolonged wrist injury, and notable celebrities, including the England men's football team and actor Terry Crews, graced the paddock.
