All you need to know about the Shanghai International Circuit

Formula 1 returns to the Shanghai International Circuit for the Chinese Grand Prix, marking the second round of the season and the first Sprint event of the year. Originally debuting in 2004, the track is known for its technical layout, featuring a challenging 'snail' opening sequence, high-speed corners, and one of the longest straights on the calendar at 1.2km. Ahead of the 2025 event, the track was resurfaced to increase grip, though teams must now manage tyre graining. The 2026 season introduces new technical regulations, including 'Straight Mode' for drag reduction across four designated zones and an 'Overtake Mode' that replaces DRS, providing drivers with extra electrical power when within a second of the car ahead at the Turn 16 detection point.
