Antonelli takes championship lead with victory in Japan
Kimi Antonelli has taken the lead in the Drivers' Championship after a dominant victory at the Japanese Grand Prix. The Mercedes driver triumphed ahead of McLaren's Oscar Piastri and Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, becoming the youngest-ever leader of the championship standings.
The race saw high drama as a Safety Car triggered by a heavy crash for Haas driver Oliver Bearman allowed Antonelli to pit and retain his lead. Despite pressure from his rivals, the young Italian maintained a commanding pace, crossing the finish line over 13 seconds ahead of Piastri. George Russell finished fourth, followed by Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton. Pierre Gasly secured seventh place, holding off a late charge from Max Verstappen, while Liam Lawson and Esteban Ocon rounded out the points-scoring positions.
