2026 work ‘biggest project we’ve ever done’ – Mercedes

Mercedes' Trackside Engineering Director, Andrew Shovlin, has revealed the team's preparations for the 2026 technical regulations represent their "biggest project ever." The new rules will bring entirely new cars and overhauled power units, with work on the power unit in Brixworth already spanning years. Shovlin emphasized the monumental effort, also involving fuel development with Petronas and new electronic systems, alongside a completely new chassis. While the team doesn't yet know their performance standing, a successful Barcelona shakedown allowed them to gain valuable learning. Mercedes is now setting its sights on Bahrain for further setup exploration and race preparation, aiming to ensure the car performs optimally in relevant racing conditions.
