Piastri reacts to ‘getting taken out by a backmarker’ in Hungary

Oscar Piastri’s bid for victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix ended in disappointment following a series of unfortunate events. After a brilliant start saw him move from third to first by overtaking Charles Leclerc and teammate Lando Norris, Piastri led the first half of the race. However, his momentum stalled after his second pit stop as he struggled with pace on hard tyres and encountered heavy traffic. A collision with Carlos Sainz’s Williams hampered his progress further, causing him to lose ground to Norris. His race eventually ended in retirement due to an apparent gearbox failure with 15 laps remaining. Despite the frustration, Piastri defended the team’s strategy and expressed his intent to use the upcoming summer break to reset and return stronger. Lando Norris eventually secured the win for McLaren, joined on the podium by Max Verstappen and Kimi Antonelli.
