Mercedes dominated the first practice session at the Japanese Grand Prix in Suzuka, with George Russell leading his teammate Kimi Antonelli at the top of the timesheets. Russell set a benchmark of 1m 31.666s on soft tyres, narrowly edging out Antonelli by 0.025s. The McLaren pair of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri secured the third and fourth positions, while the Ferrari duo of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton rounded out the top six. Meanwhile, race stewards will investigate a collision between Alex Albon of Williams and Cadillac's Sergio Perez that occurred at the final chicane.
