Piastri surprised to beat Ferrari after P4 in Austria

McLaren’s Oscar Piastri expressed satisfaction after finishing fourth at the Austrian Grand Prix, ahead of both Ferrari drivers. Piastri admitted the result was a surprise given the team’s struggles in Barcelona, noting that the warmer conditions at the Red Bull Ring played to their strengths, though he cautioned that the competitive order remains volatile. Teammate Lando Norris felt his race was compromised by a difficult opening lap and losing track position during pit stops. While disappointed with his seventh-place finish, Norris highlighted the car’s strong pace in clean air and agreed with Piastri that while beating the Ferraris was a positive step, McLaren still has significant work to do to consistently challenge the frontrunners.
