Brown insists McLaren ‘won’t change the way we race’
McLaren successfully defended their Constructors' Championship and saw Lando Norris clinch his first Drivers' title, despite facing criticism for their 'papaya rules' policy. CEO Zak Brown emphasized the team's unwavering commitment to providing both Norris and Oscar Piastri equal opportunities, a strategy that occasionally led to difficult decisions, like a team order in Monza favoring Norris. While acknowledging some imperfect moments, Brown stated McLaren remains dedicated to this fair racing philosophy. He highlighted that constant evaluation is inherent to F1, but the core principle of equal opportunity for their drivers will not change, enabling Norris to secure the title by just two points over Max Verstappen after a season where Piastri also led the standings.
